Concept
Who is Jesus? Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth in human form. 2,000 years ago, God sent His Son Jesus Christ to be born of a virgin in the country Israel. The Bible explains that Jesus existed with God in heaven before He came down to earth as a man. This is because Jesus is part of the Godhead, which includes God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. These are 3 persons, but one God. John 1:1-4 says this about Jesus: “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.”
"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." - John 14:6
Jesus lived on this earth for 33 years. He performed many miracles and He taught about God. His teachings are contained in the Bible in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Jesus lived a perfect life without sin. When He was 33 years old Jesus was killed; He died on a cross which was an execution for common criminals. He willingly gave Himself to die to pay the penalty for our sins.
"I and the Father are one." - John 10:30
The Bible teaches that Jesus is both fully human and fully God. Listen to what Philippians 2:6-10 tells us about Him: “Although He [Christ] existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” Wow, what a powerful description of Jesus! This is why we worship Him as the Savior and Lord of the universe.
"For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him." - Colossians 1:16
Jesus came from the Father and was born of a virgin, performed many miracles, and foretold of His death and resurrection. When God raised Him from the dead, it proved that Jesus is who He said He is—the very Son of God and Savior of the world. After His resurrection, Jesus returned to his position in Heaven where He now reigns with God and prays for those who believe in Him. We will meet Him again at His Second Coming and live with Him in heaven for eternity. How wonderful that will be!

Conversation Points
This session, we are going to talk about who Jesus is.
Question: What do you know about Jesus so far?
John 1:1-14
"In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognise him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son."
Question: Who is the Word?
What Jesus said about himself
He is the Answer to everything
John 8:12
"Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
John 10:9-10
"Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
John 10:11
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.
John 11:25-26
"Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
John 14:6 (NLT)
"Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."
He is God
John 14:9-11
"Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do."
John 17:5
"Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began."
Luke 22:70 (NKJV)
"Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?”
So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.”
Lunatic Liar or Lord?
"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronising nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. ... Now it seems to me obvious that He was neither a lunatic nor a fiend: and consequently, however strange or terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God."
- C.S. Lewis
All the Prophets confirm his identity
There are too many prophecies to recount here - over eighty of them, all 400 years or more before he came!
The statistical probability of one man fulfilling them all is so overwhelmingly small - the fact that Jesus DID fulfil them proves he is God.

Jesus was the only sacrifice sufficient to pay for our sins
Hebrews 10:10-14
"For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honour at God’s right hand. There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy."

Jesus was resurrected from the dead
Luke 24:6-7
"He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.”
1 Thessalonians 4:14
"For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died."

Jesus is now in heaven making intercession on our behalf
Hebrews 7:25
"Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf."
Hebrews 12:24
"You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel."
Jesus had to go away to allow the Holy Spirit to come
John 16:7
"But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you."
Jesus will come again
Acts 1:11
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”

Acts 17:31
"For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.”
Revelation 1:7-8
"Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven.
And everyone will see him—
even those who pierced him.
And all the nations of the world
will mourn for him.
Yes! Amen!
“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”
